Samy Harmoush’s commitment to advocacy and justice began in Southern California’s diverse Muslim community. Growing up, Samy’s determination was evident early on. In high school, he juggled his academic pursuits with a part-time job as a bank teller, contributing to his family’s finances. He also excelled in mock trial competitions, winning regional honors as the County’s top attorney in his final year of high school. He was an also ran varsity cross country and track and field.
With an aim to broaden his horizons and deepen his understanding of global affairs, Samy attended Columbia University in New York City. His hard work paid off as he graduated near the top of his class on a scholarship. There he focused on international relations, business, and philosophy. At Columbia, Samy honed his legal skills, representing the university in its nationally ranked mock trial team, competing with top students nationwide.
After completing his studies at Columbia, Samy dedicated three years to a non-profit as the National Project Manager aiding Syrian refugees, witnessing firsthand the challenges immigrants and religious minorities face. There he visited with representatives of Congress, community activists, medical aid organizations, and many others based abroad and in the United States for a democratic Syria where the rights of all people are respected. This experience reinforced his passion for advocacy.
He continued his academic journey at Syracuse University College of Law, once again standing out by graduating near the top of his class in only 2.5 years, a semester before the rest of his classmates. At Syracuse, Samy dove into several hands-on clinical programs. He defended the less fortunate in criminal defense and bankruptcy courts. He also participated in Syracuse’s incubator for technology commercialization and intellectual property where he assisted two startups to obtain their trademarks and initial funding.
Upon completing law school, Samy returned to Southern California and successfully passed the challenging CA bar exam on his first attempt. He gained experience at two top-tier litigation firms working both for defendants and for plaintiffs. Recognizing a gap in employee and consumer rights advocacy, he founded the Workers’ Advocate Law Group. Rapidly expanding, the firm opened offices in New York and Washington DC – he is licensed in all three jurisdictions.
